The new MakeShop exhibit will be located in a large, better equipped space that will allow our visitors to make in many different ways!
The MakeShop will include some of the following specialty areas.
- WoodShop – Use real woodworking tools to shape wood and build your own projects, like birdhouses and more!
- SewShop – Learn to use a sewing machine to upcycle clothing, sew a stuffed animal, handbag, scarf – you decide!
- ElectricShop -Take apart small appliances and reassemble the parts, connect circuit blocks and build electric speakers and pickups.
MakeShop is a partnership among Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon’sEntertainment Technology Center (ETC) and the University of Pittsburgh Center for Learning in Out of School Environments (UPCLOSE). It integrates DIY/ Maker elements with digital tech projects and media access to produce a laboratory for exploration, creativity and curiosity. Through these combined elements and our unique partnership, MakeShop pushes the envelope of informal learning by incorporating old and new technologies and project-based activities in a hands-on workshop environment.
