A Month of Tape

The month of September was full of tape. Our newest exhibit, TapeScape was under construction. The structure is made out of a lot of packing tape. You’d be surprised how sturdy the material actually is. It was able to support several grown exhibit technicians at one time. The exhibit is part climbing structure, part art piece. It is a sight to see. MAKESHOP got into the spirit of tape during this month as well.

Design and prototype

Sometimes, we can find some really cool stuff in the Museum’s basement. Our basement serves as one of the exhibit workshops, so many of the materials were at one point used for prototyping or repairing exhibits. For example, this acrylic dome. Re-purposing Old Parts

Putting Gears on the Wall

My gear prototype has now gone vertical. A project is never finished, you can always change something or introduce a new variable.  I decided to try out our gear setup in a different location in the MAKESHOP.  I ended up mounting the entire structure to the wall with some hangers, zip-ties, and magnets.
